Sometimes On The Road, Ya Just Need to Eat With A Familiar Name Like Denny’s

“You have a refined taste in food,” my friend Madge told me during one of our adventures. Her idea of dining out is opening up a jar of Jif Peanut Butter in the hotel room while I prefer going out and eating local, whether it’s a hamburger joint or five-star restaurant.

Sometimes when traveling, especially alone, dining with a familiar name is comforting and just what the soul needs. I did just that earlier this month when I dined at Denny’s in Titusville, Fla. (3500 Cheney Hwy,), while attending the #NASASocial for the SpaceX CRS-4 launch.

Quite honestly, the reason I ended up here is because I was pretty dang tired, hungry and had a Denny’s gift card burning a hole in my wallet since the 2013 BlogHer Conference. Each attendee staying at the host hotel received one in order to try out the menu. I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use mine and tah-dah! Here it was, especially the restaurant was extremely close to my hotel.

Sorry, this isn’t going to be a post poetically analyzing each dish or critiquing the gracefulness of my server. Nope, this is a down and dirty post to remind you and me that good food doesn’t necessarily need to be hidden in some alley only the locals know. It can easily be found off the interstate, in a city center, or adjacent to a hotel. And, it can have a name you’re familiar with.

What did I have? I ended up savoring a cup of Loaded Baked Potato Soup, which was served just the way I would have served it, messy with a dollop of sour cream, sprinkling of shredded cheddar, unevenly sliced bits of bacon and the creamy soup oozing over the edge. To balance this sinfully creamy starter, I choose the Cranberry Apple Chicken Salad off Denny’s Fit Fare(r) menu which was a nice mix of tart, sweet and savory. Fit Fare offers healthier choices with lower calorie and lower fat entrees which is perfect when looking to eating healthy when traveling.

When it came for the check, I overheard the table next to me say Denny’s diners save 10% off the check with their AAA card. Score! You betcha I whipped out my card to save. Even better for the golden crowd, save 15% with an AARP Members Advantages discount.

It’s been a long time since I last dined in a Denny’s and I hope I find the occasion again to return. Are you a Denny’s diner?
