Dazzling Colors in Independence Mine State Historical Park, Near Palmer, Alaska
There’s gold in them thar hills! I write this post as the end of my second day in Alaska draws to end. It’s been an amazing journey so far, a feast for the eyes as foliage is turning from green to hues of gold, orange and red. More images are to come but enjoy these snapshots from Independence Mine State Historical Park located north of Palmer and about 2 hours northeast of Anchorage. It’s the site of gold mining back in the early 1900s.

My dog Radcliff’s paws led the way through Colorado’s breathtaking landscapes—from the dramatic depths of Black Canyon to a whispering ghost town. Scenic drives along Guanella Pass and wildflower-chasing detours made this dog-friendly summer road trip a memorable blend of adventure, nature, and tail-wagging joy.
After years of dreaming, I finally chased the aurora borealis in Fairbanks, Alaska—where dogsledding, reindeer walks, hot springs, and peaceful solitude made my winter solo adventure every bit as magical as I’d imagined.
