Mermaids have entertained and enchanted visitors in Weekie Wachee Springs, Fla for decades. Now, spot them along the Florida Mermaid Trail in nearby historic Brooksville.
Spot 20 Small Mermaid Statues
The Florida Mermaid Trail consists of 20 small mermaid statues sprinkled throughout downtown. It’s a fun way to explore the historic city, visit shops and eateries, and admire art and architecture you may not have noticed before.
There’s a map along and smart phone applications to follow. Walk the entire 2.2-mile trail and spot the 20 mermaids. Or, follow the 1.1-mile trail to view 10 mermaid statues. Of course, follow your own trail as I did because I did not have time to walk either trail. This means a return visit to see the other 17 I missed.
The Florida Mermaid Trail debuted Feb.29, 2020, before the president declared a national emergency. As Florida begins opening up and finding a new normal, this is a fun way to exercise while practicing social distancing.
