Where’s the best place to have a mooo-velous time in Florida? Dakin Dairy Farms in Myakka City! When a cup of creamy, chocolate milk spills, is it okay to cry? During a tour of Dakin Dairy Farms in Myakka City, it’s just what I wanted to do after knocking over my complimentary cup of chocolate milk while trying to snap the perfect photo for Instagram. Granted, it was about an ounce but it was mighty delicious.

The country’s only estate-grown sugar cane farm distillery is located in Lake Placid, Fla. During a lazy Saturday afternoon, I set my GPS toward the heart of the Sunshine State to taste handcrafted rum, vodka, moonshine and whiskey at Sugar Sand Distillery. And, the distillery is located less than 5 minutes from Henscratch Farms.

Driving Cape San Blas Road toward T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, off to the right I spotted a big black banner hanging on a white and blue building. Sandwiched between a pair of white skull and crossbones, it read “Skully’s Low Country Boil.” Something told me it served really good food and hoped it would be open later in the afternoon. Especially since I was camping and it appeared restaurant options on Cape San Blas are limited.

I was hoping for an adventurous road trip with my dog Radcliff. As the conference date grew near, I did the math and decided it was more economical to fly on Allegiant nonstop from Punta Gorda into Kansas City and leave Radcliff with his pet sitter rather than driving two or three days each way.
