“Chicken wings are a meal!” As if there was any doubt in New York, but there was!

Chicken Wings are a Meal!
Chicken Wings are a Meal!

In this time of COVID-19, restaurants or bars in New York State wanting to serve alcohol need to serve food with the order.

There was question as to whether chicken wings (or “wings” as we Buffalonians say) are food. Well, most Western New Yorkers already knew the answer. Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated wings are not “substantive” food.

What?!?!

Bless his heart. I hope Buffalonians sent him dozens and dozens of hot, medium, and mild wings.

Because of Gov. Cuomo’s statement, a friendly discussion ensued – especially on Twitter – whether chicken wings are, in fact, a meal. Ask any Buffalonian and they’ll let you know. Now, everyone in New York State is now on the same page and yes, chicken wings are a meal.

"The One Thing We Can Agree On."
“The One Thing We Can Agree On.”

And here’s the fun part, a young entrepreneur in Clarence, N.Y. (where I went to school) took the governor’s statement personally and launched Buffalo Thread Wear. He’s now designing and selling T-shirts which read “Chickens wings are a meal” on the front. The back states, “The one thing we can agree on. Sincerely, Buffalo.” A portion of the proceeds are donated to the International Justice Mission which fights human trafficking.

Because I love my wings, of course I have a shirt, thanks to my mom. During these days of heated political debates, it’s nice having something we can agree on.

Head over to Etsy and get yours to spread the message, chicken wings are a meal!
