Sept. 24, 2016, enjoy free museum admission nationwide during Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day Live! Celebrating its 12th anniversary, it’s a day museums in all 50 states celebrate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based facilities by offering free admission.

It’s been several years since I’ve been able to participate in free Museum Day Live! because my schedule hasn’t jived BUT, I LOVE sharing it with my readers. Here in Florida, I have dozens of options and high on my list include a return visit to The Ringling in Sarasota; the South Florida Museum in Bradenton to visit Snooty, at 68 he’s the oldest living manatee in captivity; and Historic Spanish Point in Osprey.

My tips for making the most of Museum Day Live!

  • Download and bring your ticket prior to showing up at your museum of choice. (One ticket is valid for two people)
  • Arrive early and bring along your patience. As you can imagine, free admission will bring out the masses.
  • Although admission is free, share the love and drop a buck or a few in the donation box.
  • Remember, not every museum in the U.S. is participating but each of the 50 states has at least one museum participating.

Some participating organizations already offer free admission throughout the year, but they may be offering additional activities.

Visit smithsonian.com/museumdaylive to find a museum, learn more and download your ticket.

Free is fabulous, right? Where will your curiosity lead you on Museum Day Live!? Get social with Smithsonian magazine and let them know by using @MuseumDay #BoundlessCuriosity #MuseumDayLive.
