One of my favorite days is coming up on Sept. 26, 2015, it’s Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day Live! Celebrating its 11th anniversary, it’s a day when more than 1,300 museums from across the United States celebrate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based facilities by offering free admission.

Honestly, it’s been several years since I’ve been able to participate in free Museum Day Live! because my schedule hasn’t jived, BUT it looks as though I may be able to take in some free culture this year. Here in Florida, I have dozens of options and high on my list include a return visit to The Ringling in Sarasota; the South Florida Museum in Bradenton to visit Snooty, at 67 he’s the oldest living manatee in captivity; and The Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.

My tips for making the most of Museum Day Live!

  • Download and bring your ticket prior to showing up at your museum of choice.
  • Arrive early and bring along your patience. As you can imagine, free admission will bring out the masses.
  • Although admission is free, don’t be shy with dropping a buck or several in the donation bucket.
  • Remember, not every museum in the U.S. is participating but each of the 50 states has at least one museum participating.

Some participating organizations already offer free admission throughout the year, but they may be offering additional activities.

Visit smithsonian.com/museumdaylive to learn more, find a museum and download your ticket.

Free is fun, right? What museum will you be visiting?

Hey Bank of America Cardholders!
Did you know through Bank of America’s Museums on Us cardholders receive free admission into participating cultural institutions and museums during the first weekend of the month?
