“Would you like blue cheese or ranch dressing with your chicken wings?” Every time I hear a restaurant server ask this question, I cringe. Like every other Buffalonian, wings should be served with blue cheese and celery sticks and NOT ranch dressing. (Sorry, Hidden Valley.)
We Buffalonians Take Our Wings Seriously
You can take the girl out of Buffalo but you can’t take the Buffalo out of the girl. Wings are the reason I will never live a vegan lifestyle. I keep a bottle of Frank’sRedHot Sauce, aka: chicken wing sauce, in my pantry to dash it on other foods to emulate that savory, hometown wing flavor.
We Buffalonians take our wings seriously. Sure, we get flack for snow-filled winters but we’re proud of our wings. Annually each summer, Western New Yorkers and others from across the globe flock to Buffalo to celebrate the mighty wing during the National Chicken Wing Festival.
For those who want to talk the talk, they are “wings.” They aren’t “chicken wings.” And do I need to clarify people refer to them as “Buffalo wings” because wings originated in Buffalo, N.Y., and are not some freakish part of the buffalo animal.
Next time your travels lead you to Buffalo, order a dozen wings with a side of blue cheese and celery sticks.
My favorite place for wings when visiting Buffalo? Sal’s Lounge in Depew. Here in Southwest Florida, Buffalo Wild Wings and Buffalo Wings & Rings satisfy my fix.

With blue cheese those wings sure look more tempting in every sense of the word.
I’ve never understood the need for anything to be served with Buffalo wings. Shouldn’t the sauce on the wings alone be enough?
Oh, yum! Bring it on!

I love hot wings, but hate blue cheese. I much prefer a side of extra Frank’s!
Mmm this has made me so hungry for BBQ, I wish the weather would change. That looks so good, thanks for sharing 🙂
Harry makes awesome wings, but he’s one of those wimpy guys who want a side of ranch. Actually, it’s just for dipping the celery – he eats the wings straight.

Thanks for stopping by. Looking forward to reading your posts!!
I just had wings today, for dinner. Definitely with blue cheese! There’s no other way!
I read the title of this blog and thought “OMG, why do people even put ranch on there wings??…” Needless to say I was relieved when I read on. I have seen this phenomenon more and more, mainly on the West coast. There is nothing like a good blue cheese to dip the wing in, it tones down the spice while enhancing the flavor.
And my mouth immediately started watering the minute I read “FranksRedHotSauce”. yum.
Good post and thanks for the tips where to get good wings in Buffalo. I have never been, but that seems like a good reason to go.
Hello! Ok, don’t everyone gasp at once, but I have never had Buffalo Wings! I am a vegetarian. But, since my hubby loves wings, I have to say, I enjoy getting that weird little side of celery sticks and dressing. It makes the appetizer delish for both of us! LOL!
I found you on the Facebook Blog Park page! Check out my blog when you have time! ~ Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/
Well, since you’re vegetarian I can understand having never tried them I hope the dressing is blue cheese you’re dipping the celery in 🙂
