Florida Travel: Teen-Owned Sage Paddle Company Offers Fab Fun on Navarre Beach
“Are you having fun?” 16-year-old Sage Offutt asked with a smile as she pulled up next to me on her teal-colored scooter. Her long, strawberry-blonde hair was loosely tied up in a bun on top of her head and she wore a tie-dyed T-shirt which read, “Just Livin’ the Dream.”

There are about a dozen places in the United States where horses are permitted on public beaches and only three locations in Florida with Cape San Blas in Gulf County, Florida, near Port Saint Joe, being one. The other two locations are Amelia Island in the northeast and Hutchinson Island in the southeast. On a lovely May evening, I experienced horseback riding on the beach at Cape San Blas.

Driving Cape San Blas Road toward T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, off to the right I spotted a big black banner hanging on a white and blue building. Sandwiched between a pair of white skull and crossbones, it read “Skully’s Low Country Boil.” Something told me it served really good food and hoped it would be open later in the afternoon. Especially since I was camping and it appeared restaurant options on Cape San Blas are limited.

And if you live within a stone’s throw to a beach, I highly recommend you take advantage of an evening seaside stroll for a good dose of Vitamin Sea. For some strange reason, the beach has been reserved for the weekends to unwind from the workweek. But I say, carpe diem and dip those toes in the sand.

Legos are one of those timeless toys. Making something out of a pile of plastic bricks sparks creativity and innovation. Like me, I’m sure you have memories of Legos, whether it was building something with a friend, sibling, parent, or child, or stepping on a single brick on the living room floor with your barefoot. Relive all those brick-tastic memories with a visit to LEGOLAND Florida.

Reading inspires travel. I was reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini in 2005 and I was intrigued to learn more about the modern Afghan culture. At the same time, I received information about a trip to Afghanistan, where much of the novel takes place. Less than a year later, I spent 10 days in Kabul with a humanitarian organization. Eat, Pray, Love, a memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert has ignited travel to Italy, India and Bali, the three countries she visited following her divorce. As there are books to move readers to travel the globe, there are plenty of books to inspire readers to travel throughout Florida. As you plan your summer vacation, consider reading one or all six of these books to find your inspiration.
