I’m prepared for Paczki Day with a visit to Yummies Donuts & BBQ in Venice, Fla. Are you?

What’s Paczki? (It’s Not Pronounced How You Think)

Have you ever had paczki? Pronounced “poonch-key” or “puhnch-kee,” it’s a fried Polish donut filled with yumminess! Traditional fillings are prune jelly or raspberry jelly.

In North America, if you can find them, they have the traditional fillings along with others like spiced apples, custard, and in Florida, you’ll probably find key lime. Paczki dough is denser than most donuts and traditionally made with yeast, more eggs, high-gluten flour, spices, and alcohol like vodka.

Paczki Day is observed in North America on Fat Tuesday which is right before the beginning of Lent. In 2023, that’s February 21.

Here in Southwest Florida, I found paczki at Yummies Donuts & BBQ in Venice. I picked up two traditional paczki, one with a raspberry jelly filling and another with a prune filling. I also picked up a vodka raspberry filled one!

For Paczki Day, I’m picking up a dozen to share during a board meeting.

See what I picked up for myself in the YouTube video below!

Yes, I’m Type 2 Diabetic – who recently lost more than 50 lbs., and I’ll enjoy these in moderation.

Yummies makes paczki the weekend before Paczki Day/Fat Tuesday through that Fat Tuesday.
