Celebrate National Beer Day at Peace River Beer Company

There’s no better place to celebrate National Beer Day (April7) than a place that knows beer and that’s what I did. Except, rather than beer, I enjoyed a Strawberry Magic hard cider by Ciderboys which did taste like the sweet berries. This hard cider will be deliciously refreshing on a hot summer day.

The first time I visited Peace River Beer Company was in Dec. 2017 for its opening. Back then, beer was being crafted by the then parent brewery, Bury Me Brewing, in Ft. Myers. Meals were available from rotating food trucks.

Authentic Thai Food and Sushi at Peace River Beer Company

Fast forward to April 2021. I learned Bury Me Brewing closed in Fall 2019 but Peace River Beer Company is still pouring 20 tempting taps of craft beer and some hard ciders. Many of the beers are from Florida-based breweries and the selections change.

There’s now a Thai restaurant inside the taproom which seems like an odd combination. But hey, it works! It also means, food trucks no longer make appearances. The restaurant also serves sushi and a handful of non-Thai dishes. Outside, herbs and peppers grow in wood planters. They are used in some dishes. Hot sake and sake bombs are available, too.

Having visited Thailand, I ordered pad Thai. Although it was a bit different from what I enjoyed on the streets of Bangkok, it was still delicious and plentiful. Next time, I’m trying the sushi and probably the tempura cheesecake.

An Indoor Campsite

Décor in the Peace River Beer Company includes canoes hanging from the ceiling, camp lanterns and fishing rods on the walls, and toilet paper strung by rope in the bathroom. Seating is in booths, tables, and picnic tables but the best seat in the house is at the bar.

This is also the most fascinating because looking down on the bar gives you a snapshot of what it looks on the bottom of the Peace River. Encased in inches of resin is a muddy river floor with seashells and man’s (and woman’s) lost treasures. These range from a Swiss Army knife to flip-flops and a license plate to plastic forks.

Having recently canoed the Peace River, the comfortable, cozy atmosphere inside the bar encapsulates the authentic Peace River adventure. Whether you’re looking to enjoy the beer or seeking a culinary adventure, Peace River Beer Company will satisfy both.
