Where Are the Best Fish Tacos in Southwest Florida?

Friends know I have an obsession with them and I’m excited to be joining other judges in finding the best fish tacos in Southwest Florida. Yes, adventurous readers. I am putting my certified food judging skills to work by participating in the First Annual Fish Taco Frenzy Competition and eating my way through Southwest Florida sampling this pescetarian fave.

I can’t pinpoint the exact date I fell in love with fish tacos but my obsession goes back at least a decade when I remember suggesting to a conference planner hosting a meeting in Sarasota, Fla., that they needed fish tacos on their banquet menu. Yes, I was met with a crazy look because I think these seafood dishes were just becoming more common.

Southwest Florida’s Fish Taco Frenzy Competition
The Fish Taco Frenzy Competition is being held during the month of June coordinated by Coastal Locals and the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association. Although we’re already rocking and rolling in June, it’s not too late for Southwest Florida restaurants to participate. In fact, it’s free for FRLA members to participate and only $36 for non-FRLA members.

Fish tacos are evaluated on taste, texture, presentation and originality.

Restaurants, pubs and food trucks can participate and as of today, there are 24 participating eateries. Also, participating restaurants are receiving FREE publicity about their participation, not only on my blog but on the social media channels of other judges as well as in a wrap-up media release.

In addition to bragging rights, first, second and third-place winners will receive plaques and the public will be invited to celebrate at the first-place winner’s eatery. Follow the fun online at the Coastal Locals’ Facebook page.

  • Non-FRLA Members: $36 to participate

Let’s Get Social!
I won’t be participating in all the judging but I’ll be visiting many of the eateries. Follow my fishy adventure on social media and come back to this post and I’ll be posting links to my mini-reviews.

And oh, yes. Fish tacos can be prepared many different ways. In fact, I’ve already sampled fish tacos from five Southwest Florida restaurants and they each had their own characteristics.
