In case you haven’t heard, Solo Travel Girl won Excellence-In-Craft Awards during the 2019 Florida Outdoor Writers Association Annual Conference last month in Daytona Beach! Read on for the press release.

NORTH PORT, Fla. (Oct. 08, 2019) – Travel and outdoor blogger Jennifer A. Huber received four Excellence-in-Craft awards during the 2019 Florida Outdoor Writers Association Annual Conference in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Sept. 19. Her blog, SoloTravelGirl.com, earned three awards including first place in the Family Participation in the Outdoors category for her article “Florida Travel: Teen-Owned Sage Paddle Company Offers Fab Fun on Navarre Beach.” That same article received third place in the Blog Post category.

She was presented the Best from Conference award for articles inspired from the 2018 FOWA conference in Florida’s Adventure Coast, Hernando County. These include “Florida Travel: Spending Time with Weeki Wachee’s Mermaids” and “Brooksville’s Distillery in the Wilds of Florida.”

Her radio show, Solo Travel Girl’s Adventures Near & Far, which aired on North Port’s community radio station WKDW 97.5 FM for most of 2018, received an award in the Radio/Podcast category. Huber’s story on “Women Making Waves,” which is about the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s initiative to recruit and retain female anglers, received second place.

Huber founded the popular solo female travel blog, SoloTravelGirl.com, in 2009. Through sharing personal experiences, she inspires and empowers others to travel alone, not lonely. She has been a member of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association since 2008. Huber serves on the not-for-profit’s board of directors as First Vice President. She will serve a one-year term as the organization’s president beginning in January 2020. A native of Western New York, she followed a hiking trail in 1997 and found her way to Florida. She has lived in North Port since 2012.

Jennifer A. Huber is the voice behind Solo Travel Girl. She's an award-winning travel and outdoor blogger and writer in Southwest Florida. Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., a hiking trail led her to a career path in the tourism industry for more than 30 years. She spent a decade with a park management company in Yellowstone, Death Valley, and Everglades National Parks. She founded the travel blog, SoloTravelGirl.com with the goal of inspiring others to travel alone, not lonely. Jennifer holds a Travel Marketing Professional certification from the Southeast Tourism Society, is a certified food judge, member of the NASA Social community, and alum of the FBI Citizens Academy. In 2023, she was a finalist in AARP's Benefits Badass competition. When not traveling, she is either in the kitchen, practicing her photography skills, or road tripping with her dog, Radcliff.
