Things to do Under Quarantine: Word Search Wednesday #7

Is Georgia on Your Mind? It's on my Mine! This is a Rest Area Stop with my Dog Radlicff.

During these days of social distancing and quarantining, I am publishing a travel-related word search each week. I will do so every Wednesday until we find our new normal. Take your mind off COVID-19 news and download this free printable, travel-themed word search. This week’s theme: State Nicknames in recognition of National Travel & Tourism Week.

I hope you enjoy this printable for Word Search Wednesday. Today’s theme is State Nicknames because this week, May 3 -9, is National Travel & Tourism Week.

Travel & Tourism Means Jobs

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism is one of the industries taking a big hit. Why is travel and tourism recognized during this week? Because it’s one of America’s largest industries which means jobs. Nationally, in 2019, the travel and tourism industry directly supported 9 million jobs and 6.8 million in other industries.

Travel & Tourism Creates an Imported Economy for Communities

For states like Florida, tourism is the backbone of the economy. During 2019, the Sunshine State welcomed an estimated 133.67 million visitors, which is a record number. Based on 2017 figures, out-of-state visitors to Florida added $85.9 billion to the state’s economy and Florida households save about $1,512 a year because of visitor spending.

Nationally, the travel industry generated more than $2.6 trillion in economic output, with $1.1 trillion spent directly by travelers in the United States. Spending by travelers generated $180 billion in tax revenue for state and local governments which funds essential programs and support.

Travel is fun but it is certainly serious business.
