Newsflash! Sleeping paradise found at the opens in a new windowNYLO Hotel in New York City. As hard as I fought, my internal alarm clock woke me at 5:30 a.m. Peering through the slivers of my weary eyelids, I could tell it was still dark and definitely not time to begin my day. I didn’t need to be anywhere until 11 a.m. which meant hopping in a cab around 9:30 a.m. While sitting in waiting for my day to begin, I started thinking about the vacation, there are so many ways to get around in New York, however, when traveling to the city, many choose to fly, but others would rather a bus trip to new york city and get in that way. It random thought but the point is, I was able to think about this after having such an amazing nights sleep.

Sleeping Like a Rock Star
There was more time to sleep. Oh, sleep. How I adore you and wish we met more often.

Pulling the crisp, white sheet and white blanket up to my shoulder and readjusting one of the softest pillows I have ever rested my head, I curled up in my nest of a bed. My body was enveloped in a thin yet powerfully soft pillow top.

Oh. My. Goodness.

It was as if I was sleeping on a cloud and did not want this to end. Plus, after pulling open the drapes, I had a stunning view of New York City.

It was the type of bed and hotel room I imagine rock stars and their lovers of the hour spending a whole day or entire weekend hiding away from the world. It was not lush or dripping with excess but the design was clean, fresh and had a open-air feeling. And again, the view was incredible.

This delicious piece of sleeping paradise welcomed me at the opens in a new windowNYLO New York City on the Upper West Side where I recently stayed during a business trip. It just wasn’t the bed that made this stay amazing, it was the whole package this boutique hotel served up – the room, the bar, the sophisticated-retro feel. Have I mentioned the jaw-dropping view of the City?

I had booked a standard room a few days before my visit which was reasonably priced for the City ($229 plus taxes). In doing so, when I shared a link about the hotel on my social media channel of choice (Twitter), I received a coupon for a complimentary cocktail in the hotel’s onsite bar, opens in a new windowLOCL Bar. That coupon was worth about $15.

Upon check-in, I was pleasantly surprised to have been told I was upgraded to a Skyline Penthouse Suite. Okay, I was told this but I really didn’t comprehend it until I opened the door to my room and my jaw dropped.

The City view was freakin’ amazing! Remember, I live in an area where a six-floor bank building is the tallest structure around, so this small-town girl was instantly “wowed” with the view of skyscrapers ahead and yellow taxicabs below. I’ve traveled to New York several times over the span of my tourism and blogging careers and to date, this was the most spacious, clean room I’ve stayed.

I sat in the living room love seat to rest and enjoy the moment. Looking to the right, I could see out onto the patio and the spectacular City view. After finding the energy (it was a long day), I moved outside to enjoy the sights and sounds of a bustling city. Looking out over the man-made vista, I felt really, really small. The Big Apple is huge!

Dining at the NYLO New York City
My plans were fluid that night (they fell through) so I found myself alone wondering what to do. The trip to New York began at 4:30 that morning, I had enjoyed opens in a new windowOn Location Tour’s TMZ New York City Tour that afternoon, and walked about 15 blocks to the hotel with my carry-on bags.

Not one to let a freebie coupon go to waste, I sunk into one of the crushed-velvet chairs in the lounge and ordered an Upper West Side Old Fashion with a side order of a Margherita pizza from the hotel’s onsite restaurant, opens in a new windowSerafina. My cocktail of choice seemed appropriate because the hotel lobby has this swanky yet welcoming modern Mad Men vibe with the decor of rich reds and dark browns. Furniture looked like throwbacks from the 1950s. Another cocktail later (a Fig Me a Cocktail made with Aged Barrel Leblon Cachaça, fig puree, triple sec, sage-infused simple syrup and lemon juice), sleep was calling.
