Not only is she inviting you to “shake it off” when the “haters hate,” award-winning musician Taylor Swift is inviting the world to visit New York City. Coinciding with the release of her 1989 album, Swift and NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced her participation as New York City’s Global Welcome Ambassador for 2014-2015.

What does this mean? She’s part of a a global tourism campaign called Welcome To New York named after her song of the same name from her new album. The tune celebrates how New York City is welcoming to everyone and inviting the world to visit. As the Big Apple’s Global Welcome Ambassador, she’ll showcase the destination’s electricity that inspired her to write the song through a host of videos on nycgo.com.

Taylor Swift also defines some New York City vocabulary, especially useful for first-time visitors. An example word she explains is “bodega” in which she states, “bodegas are our friends.”

Also included on the campaign website are articles about what to do and see in the City, designed to inspire both first-time and return visitors. Visitors and residents who tag their New York City experience Instagram photos with the hashtag #W2NY may see them on nycgo.com.

The campaign, which runs through 2015, will be promoted through outdoor advertising in domestic – New York City and Boston – and international – Spain and Italy – markets; broadcast advertising on NYC Taxi TVs and on digital billboards in Times Square; social media integration on NYC & Company’s Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter accounts with the hashtag #W2NY; global publicity through NYC & Company’s 17 international offices reaching 28 markets; and integrated messaging at travel industry trade shows internationally. The campaign will be amplified through Swift’s social media channels and in messaging surrounding the launch of her fifth studio album, 1989.

Taylor Swift will also perform on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, broadcasting live from Times Square on ABC. You can’t get anymore New York than that, can you?

Personally, I’m a fan of Taylor Swift because she’s authentic, talented, no-nonsense, classy, and a smart businesswoman. Yeah, I know. She was born in 1989, a year AFTER I graduated from high school. Still, I find her a refreshing breath of positivity in a sometimes gray world.

I’ll be heading to New York City next month for a quick business trip. I’ll also be checking out the TMZ Tour offered by On Location Tours.

Have you taken a bite out of the Big Apple lately? I’ve been several times but can you believe I have not seen a Broadway musical?
