Bobbling through the waves…Ho! Ho! Ho! We’re in the homestretch for Christmas and although here in Southwest Florida we don’t have snow blanketing the ground we have something better – evening Christmas canal cruises! King Fisher Fleet which departs from Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda, offers hour-long cruises through the area’s canals three times a night now through Dec. 31, 2012.

It’s been a couple of years since I last took one of these holiday tours so a friend visiting from out of town this weekend was a perfect excuse to hop aboard, sip some cappuccinos ($2 each), and soak up the Christmas spirit while cruising Punta Gorda’s waterways and enjoying the residential waterfront holiday displays.

Yeah, I know. Photos don’t do the light displays justice but trust me, seeing them in person will draw “oooos” and “ahhhhs” and would make Clark Griswold jealous. Many of the decorated homes are participating in a holiday lights display contest and it’s evident some folks take this competition seriously.

If you’re in the Southwest Florida area looking for some Christmas spirit, book one of these cruises. Fishermen’s Village is located about a 30-minute drive from Fort Myers and an hour’s drive from Sarasota.
