Reconnect with Family While Saving on Cirque du Soleil with AARP this Holiday Season

Many of us will be traveling to celebrate the holidays with family and friends this season and AARP is extending discounts on select Cirque du Soleil shows nationwide.  Wouldn’t it be nice to actually do something together rather than lounging around the TV during holiday downtime? Or constantly updating your Facebook status? Yeah, I get it. Football may be a tradition but wouldn’t it be fun to do something you’d remember for years and maybe begin a new family tradition?

Save with AARP Member Offers

If you haven’t experienced a Cirque du Soleil performance, you’ve been missing out on a truly mesmerizing spectacle. I’ve seen La Nouba at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando and taken a backstage tour and have to say it was pretty amazing. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a show.

Through a recently agreement between AARP Member Offers and Cirque du Soleil, AARP members can now receive 20% off Resident Shows and 15% off touring Big Top and Arena Shows in dozens cities across the country. Although La Nouba is not included, see which shows are by visiting Cirque du Soleil’s website.

Of course, in order to receive this discount, you need to be an AARP member. For $16 annually, anyone 50 or older can receive this and other benefits of AARP when they join.

AARP Members Love to Travel!

Here are some fun facts about AARP members…

Did you know the most popular AARP member offers are related to travel? Almost two-thirds of AARP’s 37 million members have reported using travel discounts in the past 12 months. In addition to discounted Cirque du Soliel tickets, the association has partnerships with Avis, Hertz and National for rental cars, as well as Hilton, Hyatt and Starwood properties for hotels.

What’s the most popular type of vacation AARP members take? Cruises! AARP members have access to discounts on a variety of cruise lines, including Grand European Tours and Hurtigruten cruise lines. (Honestly, I’m still not sure if I’m up for cruising. Haven’t done it and not sure I ever will.)

What goes hand-in-hand with travel? Shopping! Interestingly, online shopping is growing in popularity with AARP members with 71% in the last 3 months have made purchases of $100 or more online. In general, consumers over the age of 50 spend $7 BILLON (!) online annually.

I’m too young for AARP membership, although the solicitations began showing up in my mailbox about four years ago, and I’m curious who has made the most of their membership. Heck, membership for $16? Use it once for a discount during your travels and it’s paid for itself.

Which Cirque du Soliel shows have you seen or would you like to see?
