Korean BBQ. Roasted avocado stuffed with crab. Lobster rolls. Gourmet cheesecake cupcakes. Yum-ola! The Food Truck Bazaar with clever culinary creations rolled into Mount Dora, Florida, during my August visit. This was the second time the feast on wheels appeared in this adorable Florida town and won’t be the last.

Recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, as in diagnosed two days prior, I wasn’t quite sure what I could (should) eat. Although I’ve gobbled up delicious fare out of other food trucks, the thought of eating something deep fried out of an aluminum box on wheels just wasn’t appetizing. Boy, was I wrong. The Food Truck Bazaar was an amazing assortment of at least 15 trucks (I lost count!) serving up a variety of treats to please everyone from the vegan to deep-fried aficionado.

Gourmet Galore!

Decisions, decisions. The assortment was a bit overwhelming and I ended up with a spicy box from Korean BBQ Taco Box and delicious roasted Brussels sprouts from Big Wheel Provisions.  I would have liked to try more but there just wasn’t room in my belly. People were lined up about a half hour before the 5:30 p.m. opening for lobster rolls and lobster bisque from Monsta Lobsta and although I really wanted a roll, I just couldn’t eat another bite. I did sample the BBQ jackfruit from Fork in the Road which really did taste like BBQ pork. (I was so curious about BBQ jackfruit that I searched for a recipe and found this one to try by the Sexy Vegan on

Beyond the Food Trucks

While the Food Truck Bazaar is the evening’s highlight, shops are open a little later. Pure Aveda Salonspa had a refreshing station with an amazing cooling lotion dabbed on my neck  to make me feel at least 10 degrees cooler. The salonspa offers treatments from head to toe ranging from haircut services with hand massages to body scrubs and massages. (206 West Fifth Ave.; Tel: 352.383.9091)

The women’s boutique owned by Clara Schneider, Em’z on Fifth, is next door to Pure Aveda Salonspa. Ms. Schneider told me her boutique is for real women so clothing fits comfortably while being stylish. The clothing lines made with gauze are lightweight and perfect for traveling, especially when mixing and matching to change up a wardrobe on extended trips. Most of the clothing and accessories for sale in Em’z on Fifth are made in America.  (200 West Fifth Ave., Suite A; Tel: 352-735-4451)
