During my fabulous 40th Birthday Celebration Trip last spring, ZeldaMae and I did some good eating along the way. While in Victoria, B.C., on our way to Craigdarroch Castle, we stumbled across a delicious little restaurant called the Blue Fox Cafe.

Immediately walking in I knew it was my kind of place to eat. Funky art adorned the walls and kitschy salt and pepper shakers you’d find in your grandma’s kitchen accented each dining table with an impressive collection on one of the walls.

Sitting down, the feast for the eyes continued with hand-drawn art and doodles by restaurant patrons of every age and every artistic ability staring back at me from beneath the table’s Plexiglas. Most were mini masterpieces depicting a fox in some sort of situation, drawn on paper napkins.

But let’s get down to business, the menu. Oh, the mouth-watering menu. Our eyes were too big for our stomachs as we ordered an extra order of fruit which was totally unnecessary but made a nice snack while taking the ferry to Vancouver.

I ordered seafood eggs Benedict. To…die…for (can’t recall the exact name). YUM! It was accompanied by fresh-cut and fried potatoes and toast came with a sweet dollop of lovely homemade vanilla strawberry jam, delicious as a beautiful symphony on my palate.

Blue Fox Cafe serves breakfast and lunch daily and is relatively reasonably priced. It’s not necessarily a hidden place as it’s popular with the locals so expect to wait during busy times of year. Or, call ahead for reservations.
