Icelandic Volcano Changes My Travel Plans

Portland, Ore.
Portland, Ore.

Stupid Icelandic volcano! It’s official, 40th Birthday Trip to Amsterdam and Belgium is nixed for a trip to the Pacific Northwest. The airline hasn’t canceled the flight (yet) but things don’t look good. By canceling now we have time to plan for the new trip and if the flight to Amsterdam does depart, I’ll know someone who’s been trying to get home will enjoy a sweet first class trip home.

To replicate that Euro feeling, I’ve found the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm near Portland, Ore., to replicate Amsterdam; dozens of chocolate shops in Seattle to replicate Belgium; and high tea at The Fairmont Empress in Victoria, B.C. to represent England – not that the U.K. was on the trip. For more international flare, Sake One distillery near Portland is on my list for a little taste of Japan.

It also happens to be Seattle Restaurant Week (April 18 – 29) and Dine Out Vancouver (April 26 – May 6).

Yes, I’m disappointed Amsterdam/Belgium won’t happen this year but will have a fabulous journey exploring more of North America.
