Do I hear you screaming for ice cream? Well scream a little louder because PGA National Resort & Spa in South Florida is holding its “Ice Cream Festival Weekend,” Aug. 16 – 18, 21013 with the highlight being an attempt to build the “World’s Longest Ice Cream Sundae” of more than 1,200 ft. and enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

If They Build It, Who Will Eat It?
The sundae build will take place Sunday, Aug. 18 during “Luke’s Ice Cream Sweet Sundae Fun Day” held in the PGA Ballroom from 11:00 a.m. (registration) – 4 p.m. The cost is $30 per family in advance ($35 at the door) and includes a sundae building kit (two adults / two children, proof required). Additional fun activities include a petting zoo, trains, face-painting and bounce houses.

I bet ya didn’t have this kind of ice cream social in school. Whole Foods Market’s “The Big Taste” is the ultimate gourmet ice cream social and will feature more than 40 natural varieties of gelatos, sorbets, and ice cream flavors along with numerous toppings. Attendees can e-vote for their favorite flavor and a chance to win a PGA National getaway package. The event is Saturday, Aug. 17 and runs from 2 – 4 p.m. Tickets ($20 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and under, with unlimited sampling) may be purchased at www.thebigtaste.eventbrite.com or in the resort lobby the day of the event.

All for a Good Cause
A portion of the proceeds from both above events benefits the Alliance for Kids, a non-profit organization whose direct purpose is to provide funding and programs for the Child Life Department at the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital.

Child Life Specialists prepare patients for and distract them during procedures, offer coping skills and give patients and their families the tools to make their experience a positive one. The Child Life Team manages visiting groups, volunteers and donations for the children’s hospital. To normalize the hospital environment, the team schedules special events and activities during the week.

Grab a friend or your family and spend the night! PGA National is offering a two day/one night Ice Cream Festival Weekend Package on Saturday, Aug. 17 for $189 (subject to resort fee, taxes where applicable). It includes accommodations; two tickets to Saturday night’s “Sock Hop BBQ”; two tickets to the Saturday’s “Big Taste-Sweet Tweet”; access to the “Golf Kart Drive-in Movie” (one cart); and family admission to “Luke’s Ice Cream Sweet Sundae Fun Day.”
